Movie Gift Cards

There are a number of sites that deal in unused gift cards, which you can use to get discounts on movie tickets. How it works is that users sell their gift cards to a site for a portion of their value say, 80% or less. Then the site sells you the gift card for less than the card was initially worth, like $20 for a $25 gift card. You buy the card and use it, simple as that.

You can use a site like CardCash or Gift Card Granny. Gift Card Granny is especially great if you have a chain theater in your town because they have individual store pages for all of the major outlets.

Costco Cineplex Movie Packages

One of the quickest and easiest ways to get discount movie passes is at Costco. Their “Great Escape” Cineplex package for adults costs $26.99 when bought directly at the warehouse. You get 2 regular adult admissions, 1 regular popcorn, and 2 regular fountain drinks all for that one price. Keep in mind, it is $3 extra per person to upgrade to 3D. Depending on how you value the tickets and the refreshments, you could be getting a value of up to $45 there.

Costco also offers kids packages for about $10 which gives you an under 13 regular admission ticket and a kids pack from the concession stand – popcorn, soft drink, and small candy.

It’s worth noting that Costco.com often has these same or similar packages at a slightly increased price so you can buy them even if you aren’t a Costco member – but they do go out of stock often.

Look for opportunities for free screenings. Most often you’ll have to wait in line and won’t have much of a say on the movie you are going to watch, but the opportunities do exist so stay alert and keep your eyes peeled for offers. Here in Denver, there are always free screenings offered in the Westword Newspaper.

Movie Ticket Reward Points

A lot of people are members of some type of rewards program. It could be credit cards rewards points, or something more like MyCokeRewards. Regardless of what it is, you should look into the rewards catalog and see what you can get. Many rewards programs offer free movie tickets as a form of reward, and what’s even better is that you don’t need massive points built up like you do for Frequent Flyer Miles.

If you go to a lot of movies, have a larger family, or can split the set of tickets with friends, taking advantage of bulk movie ticket rates will probably make a lot of sense. They all never expire, so even if it takes a couple years to go through them, the savings might still make pre-paying all of your tickets worth it. After paying for shipping, the cost per ticket will range from $8-9.50 depending on the chain selected. That can cut the price per ticket in half compared to buying at the box office in a high cost of living location.

A growing trend among theaters is serving food and having waiters serve you through out the movie. Rather than going out for a meal and then buying popcorn and drinks at the theater, purchase a burger and fries instead of a popcorn and soda. The savings won’t be a lot, but the experience can be a nice treat.

More and more movies are coming out in fancy formats. While these are a treat to audiences who love spectacle and wonder, they come at a cost. You pay for that luxury every time you see movies in IMAX or 3D. If you want to see movies for less of a cost, ask for tickets in standard format. You can easily save a few bucks. There may be some movies that are better in 3D, but you don’t need to watch every single one that way.

Sign up for the movie theater’s mailing list. Sometimes, it’s easier to go straight to the theater’s site, or the theater itself instead of shopping around.

If the movie theater is part of a big chain, like AMC or Regal, then the chances are good that they’ll have a mailing list that will alert you to deals and promotions.

If you sign up, you can seize on any good opportunities that come your way. It might be concessions savings, ticket savings, or other types of discounts.

One of the things that most people need to do is to find a proper way to relieve stress. This is because stress is really something that can negatively impact your health. According to some studies, stress is caused by a continuous buildup of tension within the person and unless these things are properly released, the stressed individual could end up having serious problems later on. Similarly, it must be said that if stress is not relieved in a proper way, the stressed individual could end up doing all sorts of undesirable acts that would detriment society. And so for those people out there who are feeling stressed, why not do something fun like watching a movie?

Most theaters show upcoming movies to a select group of audience for free before the movie gets released to the general public. This happens mostly in major cities.

Attending movie screenings is a great way to get the ultimate movie ticket deal.

The ability to save money on movie tickets is primarily going to boil down to what city and state you watch the majority of your movies in. This will essentially determine the average price of a movie ticket in your area, what movie theater chains are available, and whether or not special events are held in the area. Big cities tend to have higher movie ticket prices, but will also have the largest selection of different theaters and free movie screenings. Smaller cities on the other hand will probably have lower ticket prices, but might suffer from a lack of options.
