Thor Ragnarok is the third installment in Marvel Studios’ Thor franchise. It is also the fifth film the the character has appeared in. Although the previous two Thor standalone entries have been successful, they’ve never been the most popular at the box office. Marvel studios takes a chance making this film more of a comedy.
Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor. Tom Hiddleston returns as Loki. They are joined by Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, and Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner and The Hulk. The film also stars Anthony Hopkins returning as Odin, and Cate Blanchett coming onboard as the very likeable villain Hela. There is also a brief, but brilliant guest appearance by Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as Doctor Strange.
Thor Ragnarok is considered one of the most entertaining of the MCU films so far and a HUGE improvement the previous Thor movies. Cate Blanchett as Hela, is a far better villain that the previous elf bad guy. Kat Dennings’ annoying Darcy and Natalie Portman’s bland Jane are not missed at all. Instead, we get Tessa Thompson’s badass Valkyrie, who can hold her own in a fight and isn’t just there just as a love interest for Thor . Jeff Goldblum is hilarious as Grandmaster, who runs the gladiator fights on the planet Sakaar.
